Responsible Wood Sourcing Policy
At Stoney Creek Furniture, we have always shared a concern for the world's forests and are committed to the responsible use of forest resources, including the wood used in the making the products we sell. One of our Core Values has always been to provide quality wood furnishings that meet our own environmental expectations, and we are constantly mindful to do our part by choosing environmentally responsible partners.
That's why we are so proud to be awarded a TOP Score for 2021, 2022 and 2023 for the Wood Furniture Scorecard. An initiative of both the National Wildlife Federation and the Sustainable Furnishings Council. This inspires us to continue to work with suppliers and partners that eliminate wood from unacceptable sources, progressively increasing the amount of responsibly harvested wood from certified sources.
Stoney Creek Furniture also recognizes the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), as well as other third-party certified programs as important tools for promoting responsible forest management. Our buying team will consider wood furnishings that meet our own requirements and are FSC-certified ahead of other goods available to purchase.
Currently more than 25% of our sourced wood furniture is certified and made from acceptable plantation wood.
We are firmly committed to avoiding wood from unacceptable sources, including:
• Illegally harvested or traded timber.
• Timber harvested in violation of traditional or civil rights.
• Timber harvested from areas in which high conservation values are threatened by poor forest management.
• Timber harvested from areas being converted from forests to plantations or non-forest use.
• Timber from forests in which genetically modified trees are planted.
Reducing our Ecological Footprint
For over 50 years, Stoney Creek Furniture has been mindful to provide quality furnishings from reputable suppliers. We know that high-quality goods, including wood furnishings, are better for the environment because they get passed down through generations of our customers’ families rather than ending up in landfills.
Purchasing from local suppliers that meet all of our requirements also reduces the ecological footprint of our products. For many years, we have proudly partnered with local manufacturers who maintain good practices, are continuously improving, and currently produce in an environmentally sustainable and ethical manner.
