Creating a More Spacious Look
Want your room to look bigger than it is? Try these decorating tricks: Most of us push furniture up against a wall – this is called “rimming”. Instead, try bringing your sofa, loveseat or chairs a few inches out from the walls. Believe it or not, this actually creates an illusion of more space.
Or, to make a small room feel bigger, choose complementary colours for your furniture, wall treatments and accessories. A smooth harmony of shades can make a room appear larger than it is.
And finally, there’s the smoke and mirrors trick. A mirror, or mirrors, will make a small space look bigger and a regular sized room, look huge. Try hanging a mirror directly across from a window and suddenly, the room will be bigger and brighter. Or create an entire mirrored wall and your room will be twice as big!
